Codependent relationships are a complex problem that cannot be solved on its own, but requires support and deep study from a psychologist. These relationships are unhealthy, painful, exhausting, destructive, but at the same time very strong. Codependency is merging with a partner, living by his needs, controlling and helping him with the unconscious goal of earning love, increasing his self—esteem, gaining usefulness and imaginary security.
These relationships do not develop, but destroy you, they are quite painful.
Causes of codependency.
Most often, the roots of codependency lie in childhood. These may be the following
situations::
- Experiencing severe anxiety due to the loss of parents or separation from them.
- A ban in the family on expressing emotions and clarifying relationships when the child does not have the opportunity to express his feelings and talk about the problems that bother him.
- Conditions in which the needs of parents are a priority, and their satisfaction occurs due to indifference to the needs of the child.
How to get rid of codependency?
- First you need to recognize the problem, realize your patterns of behavior.
- Next, you need to understand the causes of codependency.
- You also need to work on your self-esteem, learn to treat yourself positively or at least neutrally, without self-deprecation.
- An important point is to give up control, coercion and manipulation towards other people, to give their responsibility to themselves.
- Regain your feelings, learn to listen to them and express them correctly, learn to find and satisfy your needs.
- In the end, it is necessary to learn how to build healthy trusting relationships with other people, to learn new models of relationships.
